Yes, I am alive. Yes, I have been busy. Yes, I am back.
So lets forget the past and start a new beginning.
For several weeks or months perhaps, I had heard the name “Sukho Thai” come up in our food-filled conversations with friends and acquaintances. So last weekend, I decide to venture out in the heart of downtown at Dundas and Parliament area.
This place seriously looks like a hole in a wall from the outside. It was approximately 8pm when I walked in and requested a table for a party of 4. The wait time was 20 minutes or so, as the “server” suggested.
Around 15 minutes later, we managed to find a spot in the basement of the restaurant. I believe total seating upstairs was around 16 people and another 12-16 downstairs. I was fortunate enough to visit this restaurant with friends who had already experienced the venue on several occasions. We ordered their garlic chicken and garlic tofu appetizers followed by our mains; 2 orders of their signature dish “Khao Soi” (1 chicken and 1 beef) and 1 vegetarian Pad Kee Mao. I can assure you that you’ll be taking leftovers for another meal. Their servings are humongous (and this is coming from a guy who can eat).

Garlic Tofu Appetizer - a light and crispy, deep fried breaded garlic tofu bites. Served with home-made, sweet and sour, garlic sauce.

Chicken Khao Soi - Yellow noodles in curry gravy with green onions, coriander and a light, crispy noodle topping.

Pad Kee Mao (w/tofu) - Savoury, hot and spicy stir-fried rice noodles with a choice of chicken, beef, tofu or shrimp. A delicious alternative to the slightly sweet Pad Thai. Other ingredients: green and red peppers, mushrooms, eggs and basil leaves (optional: red hot chili peppers for those of you who are on that other level)
For roughly $15 per person, I truly tasted the best Thai food in Toronto. Hands down, it beats the rest out there.
